Most people with any kind of interest in the internet have now read about the Google Farmer update and how it has affected specific sites – some more than others. There has been plenty of talk about how internet marketers and affiliate marketers have been affected by this.

Since article directories and similar content sites have seen the biggest drops in traffic after the Google update, it would be easy to assume that affiliates have been affected the most.

But let’s face it network marketers could also find that it becomes harder to find potential recruits for their multi-level marketing programs. If you are in this position it pays to learn more about what the Google update means, and how you can make sure you are not affected by it in any real way.

Using article directories to drive traffic to your main website or blog

There is nothing to say you cannot still write articles about network marketing and then use the resource box at the end to link back to your website in the hope of recruiting new members. But you should be aware that the percentage of traffic you get in this way is very likely to go down.

It is unclear at the moment whether the quality of the back links achieved from such articles will be lessened as well. But it is safe to say that article marketing just got a lot harder. If you are using article marketing and nothing else to attract potential new members to your MLM plan, you should think about widening your scope if you can.

The need for top quality content

The most important thing to remember about the Google Farmer update is that it was designed to penalize those websites that had poor quality content on them, or content that simply wasn’t as worthwhile or valuable as other sites.

As a network marketer you are likely to have your own website or blog that you use to funnel people into whatever network marketing opportunity you are promoting. The key thing to remember here is that you should always ensure you develop that site with the best possible content you can.

Don’t be tempted to use articles about network marketing that you find on article directories. Make sure all your content is bold and original and provides quality information to your readers.

It can sometimes be easy to forget that you are among hundreds if not thousands of other people all promoting the same network marketing opportunity. If this is the case you have to do something to stand out among the crowd. Not only to get around the Google update so you are not affected by it, but to attract the attention of people who would perhaps otherwise ignore you and what you have to say.

In a sense the Google Farmer update could be a good thing for you if you know what it means for you and your network marketing business.

In conclusion, the Google Farmer update won’t be the end of the world for network marketers, especially if you diversify your marketing portfolio. Will Google Plus One Replace The Retweet or The Facebook Like?

Most people would agree that Google has its fingers in all kinds of pies. The latest pie it is having a close look at and taking a slice of is the social networking scene.

Their latest idea is called Google Plus One – sometimes seen as Google +1 – and it supposedly gives you the power to rate a website if you decide you like it.

As you can see this isn’t a whole new social networking site. Rather it is a chance to get even more depth on the Google results pages. It appears to have been developed along the lines of the retweet feature or the like feature on certain other websites.

If you’re familiar with Facebook you know you can like something by clicking the appropriate Facebook like button on that page or website. Similarly if you see a tweet you like on Twitter, just hit the retweet button to retweet it to everyone you know on the site.

Google’s version of the thumbs up recommendation

Google Plus One follows the same kind of thinking. The major difference is that it is used in the Google search results to provide even more information for users when they are searching for something in particular.

The main thing to remember is that in order to take advantage of this new Google feature, you have to get a Google account. You also need to be signed into it for it to work otherwise you won’t see any of the recommendations.

When you are signed in you will be able give a website or page a +1 if you decide you like it and you want to share it with other people. Your own profile page will show you all the +1’s you have given, because a new tab will appear once the system launches.

Will this system be a success?

We’ll have to wait and see whether Google Plus One is the next big thing from Google. The giant obviously hopes it will be, but the reality of the situation remains to be seen.

It is easy to see how people who already have a Google profile might give the system a try, but somehow it doesn’t quite offer enough for people to want to create a profile just to give things the thumbs up. There are already too many other ways of doing that on other sites.

In the latter months of 2010 when rumors were flying around the internet about the nature of this new Google project, some thought that it might be an entirely new social networking site. But it would appear that it isn’t.

Instead it is something that simply takes the Google search results to another level – a level that may or may not prove useful. It obviously all depends on whether you have a Google account and profile or not.

Until it has been available for a few months it is impossible to see whether Google will succeed at making a splash in the social networking scene with Google Plus One.

The Truth About Google Adwords

Google Adwords is the advertising company owned by Google. They have several different advertising option, and knowing which is right for you is key to your success.

Many people have wasted thousands of dollars on Google Adwords, simply through misunderstanding what was happening with their money.

Firstly you have both text ads and picture ads, but for the purpose of this article we shall ignore picture ads.

Picture ads on Google Adwords are very expensive, and should only be used by very large companies, who probably know more about Adwords than me.

However if your doing Google Adwords text ads then you need to choose whether you want to choose to pay for clicks or for impressions. It is always best to start of paying for clicks, and don’t change to impressions unless it looks more cost effective in your Google Adwords statistics.

CPC is the name given to bidding for clicks, while CPM is where you pay for impressions per thousand.

Google Adwords adverts are shown along the side of Googles search results. They are also shown in what is known as content placements. A content placement for a Google Adwords advert, could include your ad being shown on a blogger blog, or even in Gmail.

Whichever you are using, your success or failure will largely depend upon your choice of keywords.

A great tip to reduce your Google Adwords cost, is to use creative keywords. Remember that you are choosing which keywords you want to bid on, and the cost involved in each click is directly proportionate to the competition.

If you pick a keyword for your niche that only a few other people are bidding on, it will be very cheap to get traffic. Obviously the longer your keywords are, and the more obscure the less people will be searching for this term.

The best compromise is to bid on the cheap keywords that not many people are searching for, but use ten times the keywords.

If you can get very cheap clicks, but using longer keywords results in less searches so less clicks, well then you simply use ten times the long keywords. This way you still get lots of traffic, but at a far cheaper rate. This is an example of using Google Adwords the way it is supposed to be used.

I’ll give you a short list of terms here, that you can add to the front of your keywords. This should result in much cheaper traffic, but as I said, just keep adding these cheap Google Adwords streams, until the traffic is sufficient.

Google & Microsoft’s Bing Form Relationship With Twitter

When you started your twitter account did you ever imagine those tweets about what you are doing would end up hanging out in the giant search engines such as powerhouse Google and the new up and coming challenger Bing which is Microsoft’s new search engine?

That time has come as both companies seek agreements with Twitter to integrate their feed into the Microsoft and Google search engine results.

What Does That Mean For Me?

It means more exposure for you the marketer! Twitter’s updates will now be indexed in real time by Bing & Google. Microsoft’s Bing has said that they will now assign value to your tweets just as they have websites meaning the more value you present in your tweets the more likely your tweet could be seen by the millions of searches performed on the internet daily.

Some of the criteria they will be looking at is how many followers you have and the length of your post and if you include links in your tweet.

Originally Microsoft was the first in talks with Twitter about this new relationship but Google soon followed behind refusing to let Microsoft’s Bing get an upper hand on them as the top search engine. Microsoft (who paid $240 Million to hold 1.6% stake in Facebook) is countering by working with Facebook to index a portion of their updates also. Facebook now has over 300 million users compared to Twitters over 50 million users, but a majority of Facebook’s profiles are not available to public so will not be able to be indexed by Bing.

For Twitter this will be their first introduction to some real revenue. Microsoft & Google have not disclosed the compensation arrangement but I’m sure it’s a healthy amount, although Twitter say’s it’s not about the money.

Is the Exposure Worth the Hassle?

Both Google & Microsoft’s Bing have a challenge ahead because this is a new invitation for spammers to just spam their way into the search results. Both companies will have to determine a way to filter relevant information from the irrelevant so it will be properly placed in search engine results.

I use Twitter alot and it does help in my business. Of course you have to learn how to use twitter without it taking up to much of your time. For some it does help with adding revenue in their business and for others it doesn’t. All I can think of is the thousands upon thousand of useless tweets and spam that I have to filter through now I just hope they find a true 100% way to filter all that out.

Google and Microsoft’s Bing must have a clear plan already laid out to filter relevant results or they wouldnt have fought so hard to have this feature. Only time will tell if this is a good thing or a bad thing for marketers. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us.
