Most people with any kind of interest in the internet have now read about the Google Farmer update and how it has affected specific sites – some more than others. There has been plenty of talk about how internet marketers and affiliate marketers have been affected by this.

Since article directories and similar content sites have seen the biggest drops in traffic after the Google update, it would be easy to assume that affiliates have been affected the most.

But let’s face it network marketers could also find that it becomes harder to find potential recruits for their multi-level marketing programs. Using article directories to drive traffic to your main website or blog

There is nothing to say you cannot still write articles about network marketing and then use the resource box at the end to link back to your website in the hope of recruiting new members. But you should be aware that the percentage of traffic you get in this way is very likely to go down.

It is unclear at the moment whether the quality of the back links achieved from such articles will be lessened as well. But it is safe to say that article marketing just got a lot harder. The most important thing to remember about the Google Farmer update is that it was designed to penalize those websites that had poor quality content on them, or content that simply wasn’t as worthwhile or valuable as other sites.

As a network marketer you are likely to have your own website or blog that you use to funnel people into whatever network marketing opportunity you are promoting. The key thing to remember here is that you should always ensure you develop that site with the best possible content you can.

Don’t be tempted to use articles about network marketing that you find on article directories. Make sure all your content is bold and original and provides quality information to your readers.

It can sometimes be easy to forget that you are among hundreds if not thousands of other people all promoting the same network marketing opportunity. If this is the case you have to do something to stand out among the crowd. Not only to get around the Google update so you are not affected by it, but to attract the attention of people who would perhaps otherwise ignore you and what you have to say.

In a sense the Google Farmer update could be a good thing for you if you know what it means for you and your network marketing business.

When Google released the Panda Update many people  were nervous that their article marketing strategies were going up in flames.

When I say perform I am referring to your page’s load time.

Google has for a long time spoke about the importance of how your page load time could affect your rankings in the search engines.

So now it’s time to get serious about your page speed.  Google has released a new tool to help us out.

All you do is put your website in the tool and it will rank your page load speed by looking at your website’s script to see how optimized it is per their parameters.

It will score your website from 0 to 100, of course 100 being the best.

Currently my website is at 83, so I have a little work to do myself, but the great part about this tool is that it gives you all the knowledge you need to get your website optmized as much as possible in the eyes of Google.

When you input your website and retrieve back the information from the page speed site you will notice that much of it is quite technical.

I would advise that you consult with someone that is experience in that area so they can completely get your site up to par, so you don’t risk messing up your script, but there are many things that those not to tech savvy can do today to begin increasing their website page load time.

The main thing to remember is that the more that your website has to pull from other websites the slower you load time will be.

When I say pull from other websites I mean anything that is not hosted on your server that will require your website to retrieve such as YouTube videos, images, plugins, stylesheets, scripts, Flash etc.

This is called HTTP request, and your main goal is to figure out how to minimize your HTTP request while still maintaining a content rich website.

Some ways to minimize HTTP request:

• Combining scripts will reduce HTTP request by combining all your scripts into just one script and also combining all CSS into a single stylesheet.
• CSS Sprites will reduce the number of image request.  This will combine all your background images into one image therefore speeding up load time.
• Leverage Browser Caching will significantly increase load time.  You want to set an expiration date or a maximum age in the HTTP headers for all static resources and images.  This instructs the browser to load previously downloaded resources from local disk instead of using the network.

Just give Google what they want and you are sure to increase your page rankings.  Use the tool in this article to help begin to maximize your page to its highest level.

When you started your twitter account did you ever imagine those tweets about what you are doing would end up hanging out in the giant search engines such as powerhouse Google and the new up and coming challenger Bing which is Microsoft’s new search engine?

That time has come as both companies seek agreements with Twitter to integrate their feed into the Microsoft and Google search engine results. 

What Does That Mean For Me?

It means more exposure for you the marketer!  Twitter’s updates will now be indexed in real time by Bing & Google.  Microsoft’s Bing has said that they will now assign value to your tweets just as they have websites meaning the more value you present in your tweets the more likely your tweet could be seen by the millions of searches performed on the internet daily. 

Some of the criteria they will be looking at is how many followers you have and the length of your post and if you include links in your tweet. 

Originally Microsoft was the first in talks with Twitter about this new relationship but Google soon followed behind refusing to let Microsoft’s Bing get an upper hand on them as the top search engine.  Microsoft (who paid $240 Million to hold 1.6% stake in Facebook) is countering by working with Facebook to index a portion of their updates also.  Facebook now has over 300 million users compared to Twitters over 50 million users, but a majority of Facebook’s profiles are not available to public so will not be able to be indexed by Bing.

For Twitter this will be their first introduction to some real revenue.  Microsoft & Google have not disclosed the compensation arrangement but I’m sure it’s a healthy amount, although Twitter say’s it’s not about the money.

Is the Exposure Worth the Hassle?

Both Google & Microsoft’s Bing have a challenge ahead because this is a new invitation for spammers to just spam their way into the search results.  Both companies will have to determine a way to filter relevant information from the irrelevant so it will be properly placed in search engine results.

I use Twitter alot and it does help in my business.  Of course you have to learn how to use twitter without it taking up to much of your time.  For some it does help with adding revenue in their business and for others it doesn’t.  All I can think of is the thousands upon thousand of useless tweets and spam that I have to filter through now I just hope they find a true 100% way to filter all that out.

Google and Microsoft’s Bing must have a clear plan already laid out to filter relevant results or they wouldnt have fought so hard to have this feature.  Only time will tell if this is a good thing or a bad thing for marketers.  I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us.

A backlink is an incredibly helpful way to drive traffic to your website.  It’s important too, if your website’s survival and success depends on having a lot of traffic and to have as many eyeballs as possible scanning your website.  With a new site it can be frustrating trying to figure out how to drive traffic to your site.  Getting backlinks is a powerful way to drive that traffic to your website.

So, with this in mind, we’ll review here how to get backlinks.  One of the most common ways people get backlinks is to submit links to your website on as many directories as humanly possible.  There are so many of these directories that it will be helpful to do this.  It may take some time, but it will be worth it.  Before you submit your link to a directory you want to do a little research to be sure first that it does indeed pass on link juice (which we will discuss at a later time) and second that it is a high value directory and will continue to pass on the link juice long ways down the road.  You also want to make sure that the directory you are submitting your link to is relevant with the site you are promoting.  Some good directories to take a look at are:

• DMOZ
• Starting Point
• Business.com
• Canny Link
• Best of The Web
• Librarians’ Internet Index
• America’s Best

Link exchanges, or reciprocal linking, are additional methods used by many webmasters and website owners to get backlinks.  If you’re looking to find out how to get backlinks, this is a helpful way; however, it’s important to link only to related sites and to not mass email website owners for reciprocity.  That is a surefire way to be ignored.  Another, possibly more fun, way to get backlinks is to write something highly controversial or exciting that everyone links to, just to share and discuss!  This is called link baiting. Then the readers will link to it over and over again to discuss, and this creates that fire and thus, your backlinks.

Here are some more ways as to how to get backlinks.  This one is good: provide quality content.  Nothing gets backlinks as much as something extremely helpful.  If someone knows that your website has some great information, they are likely to share it with others.  You can also post on a forum.  However, make sure you are not spamming.  Maybe include your link in your signature or something, but don’t spam and leave.  The proper thing to do is to join a forum and contribute value to that forum which will make the reader want to click onto your site to see what else you have to offer.  RSS feeds are another great way to get your backlinks running.  Also, article writing is a great way to have yet more backlinks.  You are usually allowed to put two links either in the article or in the author resource box that will help drive traffic to your site. 

Learning how to get backlinks is an essential ingredient in the success of many websites.  One of these final ways is to provide a “link to me” section which includes the code for someone’s website.  A good wordpress plugin for this is Link To Me.  This is a way to get people to include it in their website which makes your job easier.  These are all effective ways to get your backlinks up and running.  Once you get your backlinks up it’s only a matter of time before that traffic starts rolling in.

Search engine optimization is an important tool to understand and utilize for your online company.  Whether you have a company that has a partial focus on the internet or is entirely web-based, you must target your audience’s needs through SEO article writing.  The way to do this is by utilizing the correct keywords.  In order to effectively drive laser targeted traffic to your site, you must understand what keywords people use to search for the product you are offering.  As they search a particular word or phrase, web content that features those phrases will appear higher on the return list.
