How To Expand And Strengthen Your Social Network

Posted by Aerion Miles on March 29, 2009 under Social Networking | Be the First to Comment

networking1Networking is one of the best avenues to build up your business.  It helps to increase your awareness and your customer base.  It also gives you professional resources to enhance and strengthen your skills and knowledge.

You should consider networking both online and offline  as they are both great ways to market yourself.  Some examples of networking offline include joining local associations and organizations.  Some examples of networking online are joining forums, chat rooms and social networking sites like BetterNetworker.  Heres how to strengthen your social network:

Step One – Figure out what your networking goals are.

For alot of people the best strategy for their social networking is centered around building relationships.  Some of the different relationships you can build through networking  include:

* Joint venture (JV) partnerships
* Mentor relationships
* Friends and resources
* Customers

You have to make a  social strategy as to how you are going to network with the various individuals.  Are you looking to seek partnerships or looking for mentors or a combination of above?  No matter what the answer, you have to map out a plan of action so you dont overwhelme yourself.

Next, you have to create your networking plan.

You will want to start by answering some questions:

* Who is your target audience?
* What relationships are you looking to find and build?
* What do you have to offer them?
* What networking sites or organizations will you participate in?
* How are you going to represent yourself online?
* How often are you going to post/participate?
* Will you create specific promotions and offers for your networking audience?

Third, choose the websites and organizations you are going to join.
Whether it be a local organization or a website that you join, keep in mind your social strategy and your goals. Gauge whether or not the place you choose to join is going to take you a step further towards reaching your goals before you decide to join them.  What can they do for you?

For instance, if you’re wanting to start a joint venture partnership then you may consider joining a professional networking site, or a chat room, or forum that is in the same industry as you.  This will get you where you need to be and meeting the right individuals.  If you more want to create a loyal customer base and brand yourself then you may want to join a social networking site.

Networking sites are usually valued by the amount of members they have but more importantly you want to make sure the site you join is in line with the type of business you are in.  If you sell medicare insurance to seniors and are looking for an older market then you might not want to have a social networking profile up on MySpace since the primary market for Myspace is the younger generation.

Last, You Have to Participate in your networks.  The only way networking will work is if you participate.  Here are a few tips on interaction when you are networking online or offline.

Be engaged. The main purpose of networking is so you can connect with other people.  Communicate with your network in a manner that they can respond to.  Use their language, and address issues that they will find interesting and want to read about.  Provide resources and information that they will benefit from.

Be consistent and update on a regular basis.  If you are going to develop a following online then you have to stay connected with your reader base, it’s important to regularly update content so they will keep an interest in your work.  Since many folks have made it a habit of doing some type of networking online once a day (like myself I keep access to my main social networking site all day long), it’s important to stop by and add some value.  This could merely be you commenting on a blog post from someone on your social networking site.  If you cannot regularly spend time on the sites you may want to consider the hiring of a virtual assistant.

Keep your sales pitches to a minimum.  Offer value first and expect to receive later.  Networking is more about the give then the receive.  The giving turns into sales in the long run.

Ping.Fm & How It Will Help Your Social Life

If you have been learning how to brand yourself on the internet then surely you have learned that joining social networks and creating a profile to network with like minded individuals is one of the first steps you want to take.  Sites like MySpace, Facebook, You Tube, Yahoo 360 are all top sites that you want to join.

First thing you want to do is design your profile, so it looks clean and informative and tells about you and what your purpose is for being on the site.  People will come and check out your site but why would they want to come back to your site?  Unless you are consistently updating content on your site they have nothing more to  look forward to.  What value do you have to offer your website visitors.

Okay, so the solution to that is that you will go update your social networking sites on a regular basis.  Sounds easy but as you will learn updating each social network site on a daily basis can become time consuming.  So what is the answer?

Ping.fm is a program designed to help make your post to your social networks that you belong to a lot easier.  First thing you want to do is go to http://ping.fm and sign up.  You will see that the design of the website is easy to navigate.  With Ping.fm you have the ability to post messages either via their website or also through their mobile application where you can send post over your cell phone while you are on the go.

Once you sign up and you sign in first thing you want to do is find all the social networking sites that you belong to and add the network to your list.  You can add networks such as:  Facebook, MySpace, Yahoo360, LinkedIn, Friendster, Hi5, Bebo, Delicious, Mashable, BrightKite, Xanga and much much more.

After you have setup your networks you are ready to post messages.  The good thing about this program is that you have the ability to post status updates, blogs, and micro blogs.  You can pick and choose which network you want to post what message with using triggers so every message doesnt have to go to the same place.  You can also post images and it will soon give you the ability to post video.  Got a website with a long link?  When you ping your message it can also shorten your link if you want or you can keep it the way it is.

In short I love this program because it makes it alot easier for  me to send out my post to the network I want without having to log into each site.  This will definitely cut your time it takes to manage your social applications.

How To Choose A Good Domain Name

Posted by Aerion Miles on March 23, 2009 under Getting Started | 4 Comments to Read

domainimage1Your business name is one of those decisions that feels monumental  It’s like naming your first kid.  It’s a representation of who you are, what your goals are and what you are trying to accomplish.  Additionally your domain name will be a powerful marketing tool that will represent your business.  You may like the name Jerry’s Store as the owner but to potential customers it may not communicate what your business is about.  It doesnt create a sense of uniqueness and may not interest your niche market. What is in Jerry’s store?

Take your time and come up with a business name that feels right and mixes in good with your business niche or your theme.  When your visitor sees your website name you want them to already have an idea of what your website content will be about before even visiting your website.  Another way to say it is to give away as much information about your business in your domain as possible.

For example, if your name happens to be Jim Green and you own a shoe store then www.jimgreenshoestore.com would be much more appropriate and informative than www.jimgreen.com.  Keep your domain name short somewhere around 13 to 15 characters since shorter domains stay in people’s minds.  It also limits the chance for misspelling while typing in your domain name.

Try to implement your keywords into your domain name if possible.  It will help increase your search engine rankings because your domain name is one of the first places search engines like Google and Yahoo look when they are indexing your website.

Don’t use any special characters in your domain name like apostophres and hyphens because this to affects your rankings and it is harder for people to remember.

In addition to choosing a name that fits your business and utilizes strategic keywords, there are a few more considerations.

* Keep it easy to remember.
* Make it unique.
* Make it easy to spell
* Make sure it is available

On another swing of things you may wonder whether or not a .com domain name is better than others such as .net .org .tv .us and so on?  Well .com sites are easier to remember and they offer more credibility.  Having an extension that’s easy to remember is always better for business!!

After choosing your domain the next step is to get it registered.  Domain names are snatched up quickly so be sure to get the domain name you want a.s.a.p. so it wont be taken.

From CEO to Pizza Man

Posted by Aerion Miles on March 22, 2009 under Misc | Be the First to Comment

This is a chilling video that shows you the reality of what is going on to some people.  This is a story about a man that went from being a CEO making up to $750,000 to a pizza man making $7.29 per hour +tips!!

As you can tell that is a dramatic drop in earnings and his family is now on the verge of losing their home.  While I do hope the economy strengthens to the point that people that choose to work do not have to live with the fear of losing their job and losing their home, this is a call to action to those on the fence of starting their own home based business.

What are you waiting for?

Dont let a life changing event force you to your lowest level before you committ to action.  Get an action plan together now so you can secure your future.

The best way to make money out of the home is online marketing or network  marketing.  Online marketing can range from selling informational guides, how to products, to nutritional products, to high end products.  You can also get into the affiliate marketing aspect of things and sell other peoples products.   The good thing about network marketing is that once you make a sale of a product you then have the opportunity to earn money off of other peoples efforts, thus creating residual income.

How Do I Get Started?

Step 1.  Make a serious committment with yourself to start your own home business and to not accept failure.

Step 2.  Explore the many different products available in the network and affiliate marketing industry and decide what is the best fit for you.  Be sure to read over the company, the pay plan, the owners, how  long they have been in the business and also read other peoples reviews of the business before you decide to join.  Also be sure the product is something that you believe in as if you dont want the product yourself it is useless trying to sell it to the next person.

Step 3.  Educate Yourself. If you are not educated about internet marketing then how will you be successful?  How will you teach and guide others to be successful?  Take ownership of your new business and learn every thing you can about it.  You will learn alot about internet marketing by reading through my blog.

Step 4.  Take Action.  Many home business owners love the idea of having their own business and all the perks that come with it but they fail to take any action to truly get it started.  Making business cards or a website does not mean you are a business owner.  When you start taking the action to market yourself and following up with prospective clients and make your first sale then you are a true business owner.

Step 5.  Be Consistent.  Everyday you should be doing something to market your business whether it be writing an article, updating your website, improving your landing page, optimizing your website, split testing your PPC campaign, anything that will potentially end up in you profiting.

Never give up, as they say Rome was not built in a day and your home business won’t be either.  Just because you dont see the results you want right away does not mean you are doing something wrong or that it wont happen in the future.  It takes time to build your business and you have to be patient and keep working at it.  If you do step 5 and constantly improve on your business you can not fail.

I would love to hear of any other tips are comments you have to help others get started in their own home based business.

Who Is Your Mentor?

Posted by Aerion Miles on March 20, 2009 under Misc | Read the First Comment

Let’s face it, internet marketing is not as easy as it sounds like it should be.  Very few are successful in owning their own internet business due to many different factors.  The good news is that there are a few successful marketers out there and alot of them are willing to share how they got to the next level in their marketing efforts.  The best way to learn how to be successful online is to follow the ones that have already been there and use their best practices to optimize your income.

Everyone needs a mentor to  help guide them to success.  Even the top marketers have someone that they consider their mentor or someone that helped them to the next level in the industry.  Without that guidance one may be doomed to failure.  Internet marketing employs a variety of different tactics that if not done correctly could leave you feeling like your business has no future and possibly cause you to quit before you even get started.

When you are new to the industry it can be a bit overwhelming trying to figure out who to listen to and who to completely ignore.  There are so many self pro-claimed ”gurus” on the internet it’s very easy to get sucked in by someone who has absolutely no experience at all or does not have the proper ability to train you so you too can be successful.  Alot of internet marketing products out there will only teach you so far and will not give you the exact ingredients to fully be a success, leaving you with still plenty of room for error.

So where do I start?  Myself personally I follow many top internet marketers.  I have joined many email list and subscribed to a number of blogs.  Usually these are affiliate marketers that are willing to teach you some of their methods to success without charging you in hopes that you buy their products sometime in the future.  I don’t join these list to buy their products, although from time to time you will come across some great deals, I  join so I can see how these successful people market to their audience.

Below I compiled a brief list of people that help influence and motivate you.  Google these names and join their list so you can start learning right away:

  • Frank Kern
  • Mike Dillard
  • Todd Falcone
  • Joel Comm
  • Craig Perrine
  • Brad Callen
  • Eben Pagan
  • Mike Filsaime
  • Howie Schwartz
  • Jeff Johnson
  • John Reese
  • Michael Cheney
  • Keith Wellman
  • Ryan Deiss
  • Perry Marshall
  • Stompernet

This is only a brief list and you may have others that you follow and learn from.  Remember these people have a wealth of information to offer to you and you may want to buy some of their products, but if anything analyze everything they do, take notes, and implement action.

I invite you to comment and let the readers know who your mentor is and why you choose to follow them.

Increase Your Internet Presence

Posted by Aerion Miles on March 15, 2009 under Website Traffic | Be the First to Comment

Your main goal in your internet marketing business is to drive traffice to your website.  You can have the best product in the world but if you have no traffic coming into your website, how will anyone  know?  The more traffic you have the more visitors and the more profits you make.  Here are five quick ways to increase your internet presence.

Search Engine Optimization
A great way to drive traffic to your website is through the search engines.  Search engines, like Google,  MSN, Yahoo and so forth look at two major things when indexing your website.

How relavant is your website,  meaning how well you can tell the search engines what your website is about.  You have to become a master at “On Page Optimization”.  Ways to optimize your website pages is through your keywords, metadata, site maps, your domain name and website description.  This is majorly accomplished through your content on your website.

The second category which is very important is how many links that point to your website and the relevancy of the link pointing to your website.  This is called “Off Page Optimization.”  The more  relavant and quality links that point to your website the better.  If you have good quality links pointing at your website from websites about your topic and it is also optimized good for your keywords then you should not have a problem ranking well in the search engines.

Pay Per Click Advertising (PPC)
Another way to drive traffic to your website that is alot faster than Search Engine Optimization is through Pay Per Click, (PPC).  As the name relays with this style of driving traffic, you pay for each time someone clicks through to your website.

It’s important to start small with PPC as with any new marketing strategy.  PPC campaigns can get out of control quickly.  You need to do your research, set your budget and stick with it.  Test, track, and analzye your campaigns and pay close attention to your campaign for the best long term results.

Article Marketing

Article marketing is simply what it says;  Article marketing is the process of writing quality articles and submitting them to relavant article directories.  Publishers grab these articles and post them to their websites, blogs, and newsletters all while keeping your author information and link’s to your website in tact.  This produces relavant links to your website (remember SEO), but it also drives traffic to your website after someone reads your content, enjoys it, and clicks through to your website for more quality information.  This method is a highly effective method for generating traffic to your website, and it also is free.  The downside is that it can be labor intensive.  We will talk about ways to make this less painful in the future.

Social Networking

Social networking has hit the internet world by storm and is the newest and best way to attract visitors to your website.  Social networking is the process of communicating with other people/prospects on social networking sites like Facebook, Myspace, LinkedIn, and Twitter or any industry specific forums or chat rooms.  Social networking is a very effective method of increasing your presence.  You can build your profile and connect with a large group of people that share a common interest.  A social networking profile typically allos you to list your contact information as well link’s to your website so they can learn more about what you do.  This means when you make connections and provide interesting or beneficial information to other social networkers, they’ll be inclined to visit your website, thus generating traffic and your internet presence.

Affiliates
Last but not least and yet another great way to get traffic is to get affiliates to promote your website.  An affiliate is someone who promotes your product or service for you in return for a commission.Commissions can be based on purchases or click throughs or a combination of both depending on your business and affiliate model.  Affiliates are an exceptional strategy for broadening your audience and increasing your internet presence.

Use any of these five methods or a combination of them to increase your internet presence and help to drive traffic to your website amplifying your earnings.  Choose your strategy and get started growing your business today!!!

10 Steps To Reduce Stress At Work

Posted by Aerion Miles on March 13, 2009 under Misc | Be the First to Comment

Are you stressed out?  Stress is a major factor in today’s society.  There are so many economic pressures in this world with every major company either going out of business or on their way out the door.  Some of us don’t know if when we go into work that day if this will be our last day or not.  I have a few personal friends who have already been laid off of corporate society.  So what do you do if you are still working in the corporate world?

We can learn to live with it in peace or let it destroy our lives.  One of the most stressful places is the workplace, so I wanted to share with you 10 tips to help reduce your work stress and enjoy your work life:

1.  Prepare yourself  mentally before work.  Don’t get caught up in the negative atmosphere in the workplace, instead focus on the positive and dont indulge in the gossip and negative conversation that brings down the office morale.  Negative talk in the workplace is like a virus and it’s hard to resist but you have to or you will find yourself taking that negativity home.

2.  Go To Sleep!!!  The rule always has been and still is you need to get seven to eight hours of sleep a night to give your body time to repair and be ready for a new day.  Not sleeping causes jitters, lack of cocentration, irritability and other health problems.  Plus it’s just relaxing to get some sleep in.

3.  Leave early in the morning, DONT RUSH!  I like to give myself an extra fifteen or twenty minutes before I go anywhere and I like to arrive early, because you never know what you have in store for yourself once you get out the house.  Traffic jams, accidents, and car problems can turn that easy thirty minute commute into a forty-five minute one.  With no time built in for error, you’ll stress out easily.  It feels better to get to work and have some time to unwind before you have to get started.

4.  Work your body out and stay in shape.  Exercise strengthens the body and the mind.  Stronger muscles and more blood flow to the brain increases clarity and decision making.  You won’t get as stressed when your body is strong enough to fight it!  It doesnt have to be anything big, just hop on the treadmill every once in a while, it’s actually relaxing.

5.  Eat healthy.  Watch the foods you eat because eating the wrong  foods can affect your body and your work.  Eating a heavy meal for lunch can make you lethargic all afternoon which ruins your focus and productivity.  I know after lunch if I eat to big I’m ready to call it quits.  Pick healthier alternatives to keep the body in good condition.

6.  Don’t overwork yourself.  Make your workload manageable.  Trying to do to much in one day is highly stressful, even it out like a good diet.  There is always tomorrow if you have to get something done the next day.  Create a fifteen minute window between engagements in case one runs longer than you expected.

7.  Delegate your work to others.  I know it feels better if you do it yourself, but that’s the reason to have other teammates is for the help.  Who said that you have to do it all?  Share your work to avoid the stress involved with figuring out every detail.

8.  Take breaks throughout the day.  It doesnt have to be a super long break, but take some time away from your work to clear your head.  While on break completely erase work from your mind that is your time to yourself.  You need to get away from your desk and maybe walk around a little bit.  If you stay by your desk you are more tempted to dive back into that pile of work.  Stay at your desk and it wont even feel like you took a break.

9.  Learn to communicate effectively.  The majority of hard feelings come from misunderstandings.  Don’t let your work issues build up in your mind or you will find yourself more stressed in the long run.  Then at some point you may just want to snap and let it all out and trust me it wont come out the way you want it to.  You dont want to get the rerputation for a person with a bad attitude around the office, this could  lead to verbal arguments and lead to you getting fired.

10.  Avoid bad habits.  Smoking cigarettes or drinking alcohol sounds like a great way to reduce stress but it causes addictions and it will be hard to let it go.  This will lead to more stress in the  long run, plus the cost of cigarettes and alcohol is soaring out the roof.  Alcohol is a depressant and nicotine will only heighten your anxiety.

Stress can help you or hinder you.  Learn to manage it in the workplace.

What is Market Dominance?

Posted by Aerion Miles on March 10, 2009 under Branding | Be the First to Comment

Wouldn’t it be nice to be the leader in your industry?  It would be like your business being a giant like Wal-Mart or Microsoft.  When your business presence can affect change in the market, you have achieved market dominance.

What is market dominance?  As you have probably guessed, it involves becoming very big in the business world.  Your product or brand name has risen to new heights and is a household name somewhere in your country.

For a product, company, brand, or service to have market dominance, it has to have the lion’s share of the market in a particular area.  Market dominance can spread nationwide, but it doesn’t have to.  In a certain geographic area, your business may have cornered the market in silly shoelaces or something because everyone wants a pair.

Market dominance doesn’t happen without competition.  There are others around who sell products similar to yours, but they don’t sell as well.  The closest competition doesn’t have a high percentage of the market share.

Let’s define market share.  You hear that term a lot.  In any market, such as retail sales, your business will have a majority share – usually at least fifty percent – to be declared as having a dominant market share.  Market share is not a precise indicator of how well you are doing.  Market share changes depending on customer sales, governmental regulations, and other markets.

A business that has achieved market dominance makes it hard for other businesses of that type to enter into competition in the geographic area.  There is not enough of a market left for them to compete since you control most of it.

A business that has a large market share also has market power and the potential for market dominance.  Market power is a great thing to have.  Even if you manufacture less of your products, you don’t have to change the price.

Let’s say that you sell glass bowls.  If the market starts to go south and other companies are slashing prices, you don’t have to, because you have such a large market share that people will still pay what you ask for your products.  One reason why people will still pay your asking price is quality and a unique product they can’t find anywhere else.

Market dominance doesn’t automatically transfer from one area to another.  It depends on the strength and adaptability of your product in the market.  If you began to offer your product internationally, you have the potential to dominate that market as well, but it is not a certainty.  The competition there may be different and stronger.

Gaining market dominance is certainly something to strive for.  Look to gain a foothold in your market by building your brand and a quality product that everyone can get behind.
